CRIPS – it’s a family thing
Renowned food expert Brian Smith came up with the idea for a healthier crisp after keeping a close eye on industry trends during his work as a global food technologist.
Using knowledge gained during 40 years at the forefront of innovation in the food sector, he realised it was possible to create a baked crisp that was lower in fat but tasted even better than traditional snacks!
In 2005, Brian shared his ideas for ‘a healthier baked crisp’ with his son Gareth, a successful entrepreneur in the hospitality trade.
Gareth knew his father had hit on something special – and together they gathered a team of close friends and technical experts with experience in the food industry to develop Crips.
Based at the family business headquarters at Yew Tree Cottage, Ingleby, in the heart of Derbyshire, they have painstakingly perfected a unique oven baked wheat and potato chip that has almost four times less fat than traditional fried potato crisps and has been voted number one in independent taste tests.
